On Thursday, a hospital in northwest Delhi had to send its 68 staff employees, which includes senior resident doctors, ECG technicians, nursing officers, and the housekeeping staff among others, on home quarantine. This was done because one of the patients who had undergone an emergency surgery at the hospital was a COVID-19 suspect.

The 25 year old pregnant lady was advised home quarantine by the district magistrate of northwest, but the woman suffered from sudden internal bleeding and her family members rushed her to Bhagwan Mahavir hospital in Pitampura. The doctors found that the pregnant woman had suffered from ruptured ectopic pregnancy, which is a medical emergency and can even be fatal.

The doctors at the hospital performed the surgery to save her. She was then shifted to the ICU. On Wednesday, her condition worsened and she was kept on ventilator. At that time, the patient and her family members revealed about her travel history and her exposure to coronavirus positive co-travelers. She along with four memebers were suggested home quarantine by the district magistrate for 14 days, starting from 10th April.

On Thursday, the hospital issued a circular stating that the patient did not disclose her travel history and the detail about her home quarantine in spite of repeatedly inquiring at the time of her admission. She had submitted wrong information in the prescribed form of the hospital.

An official from the hospital said the woman passed away on Wednesday around 11.36 p.m. The hospital has released a list of healthcare service providers who came in contact with her and her relatives during the patient’s stay in the hospital.

All of these have been advised to ensue on home quarantine immediately till the report of the suspected deceased patient is received.

Doctors have said that it isn’t the first time that the healthcare workers are been exposed to the risk of contracting coronavirus from asymptomatic patients. Such patients do not disclose their travel history or contact with infected individual.
